GP of France - Pierre's Debrief

For the first race of the triple header, Formula 1 was in France for Pierre's home race.

In the sweltering heat of the Castellet circuit, Pierre put in another fine performance to qualify sixth for his home race. After a podium finish at the last Grand Prix, Pierre followed up his remarkable results with a top-six finish for the fifth time in seven meetings this season.

"It was a very good day and I'm really pleased to qualify sixth. It's been a pretty tough weekend so far, I didn't feel very comfortable in the car, and we struggled a bit with the changing conditions. We made a lot of changes to the set-up of the car over the weekend, and everything fell into place for qualifying. After the disappointment of discovering that my lap had been cancelled, I knew that I only had one chance to make it through to Q3. My adrenaline level was high, and I managed to put in a better lap, so I'm very happy with that. Tomorrow will be interesting for us because we're back on a normal race track, we're starting with the same tyres as everyone else, so strategy will be key. We're going to give it everything we've got, and hopefully we can get some good points here in front of my home crowd."

As at the Baku Grand Prix, Pierre battled with the Ferraris for most of the race. On Sunday, the wind became much stronger and the track wet, making the race more complex.  With a faultless start, Pierre maintained his position until his pit-stop, when he was overtaken by Daniel Ricciardo ( Mclaren) and Charles Leclerc ( Ferrari). With fresh tyres and a solid drive in these tricky conditions, Pierre passed Leclerc and Sainz consecutively and caught up with Daniel Ricciardo in the closing laps of the race. Pierre finished the race in 7th position, his best result in France to date. It was another solid, impeccable race for Pierre: "It was a very good race for us, finishing 7th in 4th place behind the Mclarens, Mecerdes and Red Bull. We couldn't really have hoped for anything better. The whole race was positive, apart from the pit-stop when we let ourselves be overtaken by Ricciardo and Leclerc.
